FAQ
Q. What is the ADK?
a. The ADK (Avatar Design Kit) is a suite of tools used for editing ANGELWARE avatars, and importing ANGELWARE packages. It is required for all ANGELWARE avatars, as it is used to download and import packages in a centralized manner from multiple platforms. It will also handle updates, etc.
Q. Why is the ADK required.
a. The ADK itself technically isn’t a hard requirement, although it is needed for importing packages. The reason for this being that it allows us to manage updates and package files in one location, while allowing you to continue to make purchases of our products from your retailer of choice.
Q. I don’t want to use the ADK for customization, how can I avoid using it?
a. You can edit any of the assets normally. You may also merge assets together for a more standard workflow in Blender. The ADK is built for the avatar, so certain things may have quirks (such as all components being separate and merged at build-time). I personally use this same workflow for my own avatars, and make heavy use of modular avatar myself, which is why I have built things in this way. Certain animators are not easily editable however and require the AAC components for them. This is just how I prefer to write animators, it is not recommended to grab animators in playmode and edit them manually, instead try to see if the package in question has a normal animator in it. Most packages should except for NSFW-Advanced.
Q. Can I use the ADK for my own project?
a. At the moment we don’t have a solution for this. The ADK is built with modularity in mind, but is heavily built for our own projects. We plan to release an Open-Source version of the ADK in the future.
Q. Where can I find the ADK Source?
a. The entire ADK source isn’t yet available, but we plan to eventually release parts of it when we reach a stable version. The reason for this is simply that it’s a huge project and needs to be cleaned up.
Q. I want to host my verified package on the ADK for download, is this possible?
a. We are working on a solution for this in version 2 of the ADK. Coming soon I swear!
